Wordless Wednesday

For those who don’t know me I am a massive book worm. Sadly for the last few years I have not been able to read as much as I would like (well I am reading but textbooks aren’t as fun as most think!). I actually got to read a book today that was non-uni related and I will post more about it tomorrow. Tonight I thought I would share with you some quotes about books that I like! Enjoy.

Where do you blog?

So I was thinking the other day. Where does everyone blog? As I am writing this I am sitting on my couch watching Sherlock. Normally I blog from my bed before I go to bed. My new place doesn’t have room for my old desk so until I get a new smaller one my computer floats around the house. So again the question… Where do you blog?

We Will Remember

For the fallen

With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,
England mourns for her dead across the sea.
Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,
Fallen in the cause of the free.

Solemn the drums thrill: Death august and royal
Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres.
There is music in the midst of desolation
And a glory that shines upon our tears.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables at home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England’s foam.

But where our desires are and our hopes profound,
Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight,
To the innermost heart of their own land they are known
As the stars are known to the Night;

As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain,
As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,
To the end, to the end, they remain.

Laurence Binyon (1869–1943)

The perfect man…. For me

So lately, I have had a few people try to set me up with other people or had a few people take interest in me. This has made me think about what it is I am looking for in a partner and what characteristic I find ideal. So I made a list. Because you never know, someone might come across this list that fits all the things I am looking for in a partner. So here it is. What I am looking for in my ideal partner.

Physical features

  • Dark or red hair
  • Eyes that can tell a story
  • A smile that can light up a room
  • Taller than 5’6
  • Slim or average build
  • Strong but not too many muscles
  • Hands that fit with mine

  • Must like kids
  • Is kind, likes animals and is nice to waiters or those who serve us
  • Can smile even through the hard times
  • Funny, a little sarcastic and can make fun of themselves but not in a way that is putting themselves down
  • Gentle
  • Knows how to be serious but is also a big kid at heart
  • Is not afraid to cry
  • Doesn’t resist change or at least understands that it happens whether we like it or not

Other Attributes

  • Well read. Must love reading and not just the same books but a wide range
  • Intelligent. Not super smart but have a broad knowledge or understanding of things or at the very least have heard of them
  • Must want children of their own
  • Must have a job that they enjoy doing. It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t pay well as long as they enjoy what they are doing
  • Prefers pubs over clubs or just drinks at a friend’s place
  • Both an indoor and outdoor person. Is just as happy having a day time adventure or sitting at home watching movies
  • Doesn’t take longer in the bathroom than me
  • Family man. Family must be important to them

These things are negotiable. They would be nice but I can live without them.

  • British
  • Good shag
  • Good cook
  • Similar music tastes
  • Dresses nicely

So there you have it. My list. If you know anyone who fits it, please send him my way. I feel some days that I am going to be a crazy old cat person and would like to think and hope that someday I will find the right person for me!

My favourite consulting detective

So once again I am late to the party. I found firefly 10 years after it had finished and now 4 years after the first episode has aired I find this AWESOME gem. I have never really been one for mystery type shows or movies. The have never been my sort of thing. BUT.. This show has changed that. Sherlock is a brilliant piece of work my the guys who bring you Dr Who. They have done the best job at bringing the show to light and setting it in the modern era. Not to mention the perfect cast. Benedict Cumberbatch does a freaking brilliant job as Sherlock and Martin is the perfect John. I have watched the 2 seasons way too many times already. But that is how brilliant it is. Have I mentioned what an awesome job Benedict does?!? So I am now hanging for season 3 to come out. The US has their air date already and I am hoping it gets shown on free to air tv here in Australia but I am not holding my breath and will just have to wait so that I can stream it online. Bring on January 19th! Can’t wait for my next Sherlock and John fix. You have to check this show out if you haven’t already. But hands off Benedict! (I’ll write another post about that one soon!)

The Bachelor Australia

Alright it is time for me to admit. I have been sucked in and am now every week tuning in to see what happens! Tim is a very nice looking Chiro (When is he moving here!) and of the now 4 girls that are left I do believe that half of them are CRAZY. That doesn’t include the few crazies that have already been booted out. I mean there was a crazy cat lady. So from the stories I have read Tim is apparently THE HOTTEST BACHELOR EVER. He is even better than all the American ones. We breed are Aussie men well here! The biggest highlight though of this show is the Mamamia recaps! These things are HILARIOUS. I love Thursdays and always stalk my facebook to read them as soon as they come up. Here are some gems that I love from it.

Rochelle gets the one-on-one. Ali is devastated and completely unable to hide it, although she does manage to get her emotions in check before the sea rises up in fury behind her. (She may or may not have been training a giant death squid with vials of her competitors’ blood.)

And we’re back! Episode two opens with Tim doing some contemplative paddle boarding because love is hard and muscles look nice.

Tim then talks about her lips for 25 minutes, while staring at them like he’s that murderer from The Silence of Lambs and wants to put her in a hole while he softens them up a bit more.

Penny is explaining to another one of the girls how she’s going to win through sheer force of will. Who needs love when you’re willing to work hard? She goes through her checklist: “Did I step up at the group date? Did I show him I’m appreciative of being in Broome? Did I leave the right amount of my eyelashes on his pillow so he may accidentally swallow one while sleeping?”

You can check out all the recaps here! I honestly at this point think Ali will win although the other 3 are quite good front runners. It will be interesting to watch the next few eps and see who it is who wins Tims heart!

Dilemma – UK or USA

usa vs uk 01

I know it’s a hard one! Currently Addison and I are trying to decide on where to go for a holiday. This is still in very pre planning stage and will happen in hopefully October 2016. It is a dilemma as both countries offer very different things and Addison would like to go to the USA and I would like to visit the UK. So here are our plans for each of them and you can let us know what you think!

UK – For this holiday we will go for 2 weeks. I really want to see the palace, Go on the London Wheel, find and kidnap Benedict Cumberbatch,  Tower of London, museums, Canary Wharf, go on a red bus, and just basically take in all the sites. I also want to spend a couple of days in Scotland as I have some heritage there. This would take about a week or just over and then we would catch the train to Paris (A place I have ALWAYS wanted to go) and see the Eiffel Tower, The Louvre, some museums and then a couple of days at Euro Disney. To me this sounds perfect as I love the culture that both London and Paris offer!

USA – If we went to the USA it would be a 3 week trip. We would start at New York, see a show on Broadway, visit the museum, The toy store, see the statue of liberty, Central Park. Then we would head off to Washington for a couple of days to see the White House and to check out the Smithsonian. Then it would be down to Austin TX. My mum lives here so we would stay with her and check out the sights and try to head over to Houston and see the NASA space centre. After this then it would be a week in LA doing Disneyland, Hollywood and if we can fit it in a trip down to San Francisco.

So as you can see we have a dilemma as both are as exciting as the next. So can you help us. Which sounds better to you? The UK or USA?

Have you checked out Bitstrips yet?

So there is a bit of a new craze sweeping Facebook at the moment and that craze is Bitstrips. You can design your avatar and then that avatar can be placed in all sorts of situations that can be shared on twitter, facebook and tumblr. You are able to even include friends in your pics! I love it and it is a bit of fun! It works on both android and apple phones as well as on the computer for facebook. If you want the apps the links are here!

Today we headed off to the show! For those of you who aren’t too sure what a show is basically it is like what the Americans call a county fair. It has rides, food, games, art, animals and all sorts of other things. The show has changed a lot since I was a kid. There are less rides and fun stuff to do. What used to be spending a whole day there has gone to just a few hours. But Addison had a complete blast! He got a show bag, 3 rides and a go on the clowns.

Addison on the Dragon ride

Playing the classic sideshow game of clowns

Addison and Peta on the Kangaroo

On the ‘Scary Wheel’ As Addison likes to call it

We headed there with my friend Peta and her mum. We all went on the ferris wheel and while Addison had a complete and total blast my friend Peta wasn’t quite that sure! (she is scared of heights). I also had to laugh at the restraints on the kangaroo ride. I don’t think they did much to keep Addison in there! Thankfully it was a very tame ride! All in all it was a fun couple of hours to get out of the house and have some fun.

Hmmm. Not really big enough for the harness!
